Summer 2019 To-Dos

Summer 2019 To-Dos

June 19, 2019 | Summer

Okay, summer na. What’s your game plan? Or have you ever thought about it? Well, kung wala pa kayong naiisip na gawin or maybe dino-drawing niyo pa lang, we’ve prepared a few activities that you guys might want to try. Para naman maiba ang summer niyo. You’re welcome!

Have a legit picnic.

Remember the time when Yogi bear always sneaks his way to try and steal a picnic basket? Ito
‘yun, but of course minus the part na mangnenenok kayo ng food. ‘Yung part lang na magdadala kayo ng big and cozy blanket at isang cute picnic basket na punong-puno ng homemade food and drinks. Then you find a great spot and just chill out with your besties or fambam.

TIP: Kung may time at budget kayo, the best mag-picnic sa Batanes. Pero kung medyo tight, pwede rin naman sa Camp John Hay. Just make sure to practice CLAYGO ha.

Go out without your phone.

Going out and taking selfies and pictures of your summer getaway is all good. Pero ‘di naman kasi kailangan ipamukha sa buong sambayanan na you are having fun every single time (at
‘yun ay kung totoong masaya nga kayo). At di rin required i-document ang lahat. Just so you know, some of the best memories are quietly experienced amongst yourself and the people present with you. So just live in the moment and go and have fun–without your phone.

TIP: If you think na mabo-bore kayo sa pupuntahan niyo or magkakaroon ng dead air dahil hindi kayo lahat magkakakilala, make sure na magbaon ng mga card games. It’s something that can break boredom or remove some sort of awkwardness. Plus, you get to create more bonding moments.

Humayahay sa hammock.

When was the last time you took a nap at napasarap (thanks Linya-Linya), not to mention in a hammock? We’re guessing limot mo na or probably, baka hindi mo pa nga na-experience e. So ngayong summer, make it a point to chill in a hammock nang matikman mo kung gaano kasarap humayahay paminsan-minsan.

TIP: Para mas mabilis makatulog, sabayan mo nang pagbabasa.

Bida volunteer.

It’s not every day that you get to have fun and give back to the community at the same time. So why not spend your summer doing something enjoyable worthwhile. Go plant trees, feed and take care of lost furry friends, scuba dive to clean the seas, or be a math tutor to your neighbor’s kids. This way, your summer can be meaningful. Who knows, it can give you an entirely new meaning, too.

TIP: Choose a program or advocacy that’s close to your heart para heart-melting ang summer mo.

Try the New Kuya J Duo Halo-Halo Espesyal.

This is not a shameless plug, mind you. But if you’re looking to experience something new this summer, this is it. Just imagine, your favorite milky ice and ube ice are in one. That’s an espesyal experience multiplied by two. Kaya order na later for dessert or merienda!

TIP: You can share the Duo Halo-Halo Espesyal with your significant other, bestie, twin, or you can just enjoy it by yourself. Don’t worry, we won’t judge.

Things to do while Grad-waiting

Things to do while Grad-waiting

June 19, 2019 | Graduation

After 4 years worth of puyat, a ton of school papers, and yearly dance numbers irrelevant to the course (na may kasama pang fees for costumes and props), we can finally see the finish line. The graduation podium, with our diplomas waiting to be claimed.

But what do we do after finishing the clearances and the grad documents? There’s a gap of, like, 2 weeks to a month, where 2 things could happen: either (a.) we realize we want a different career or (b.) completely forget what we learned for 4 years. Yes, that’s possible. ‘Yung Statistics 1 nga, limot ko na bago ko pa makuha yung diploma. That said, here are 6 things to keep you busy and sharp during the grad-waiting period!

Craft a killer resume/portfolio

By killer resume, we don’t mean Jason’s long list of kills in Friday the 13th, ha? There are lots of portfolio sites where you can showcase your work, so, gather your finest pieces and show them off! This aids you in the job hunts for the months to come. Good luck!

Prepare for interviews

Know the usual interview questions and dos and don’ts and prep up! Plus points if you research about the company beforehand dahil diyan ka huhugot ng mga itatanong sa kanila. Remember, don’t just aim to be chosen, aim to choose a nice employer, too.

Hone your skills

You may be super proud of your grades and achievements right now but, trust me, years from now you’ll look back, cringe on your past ideas, and realize you’ve improved a lot! So, keep working.

Take a break

Pahinga pahinga din! Fresh grads have a lot of energy to do a lot of things pero gawin mo yan sa office setting, you’ll get burnt out in months. Resting is a good time to reflect on your choices, leading to a better and more productive work hours.

Start going to the gym

Today, you say yes to every lakad. But when you’re in a 9 to 5, mas pipiliin mo na lang na matulog sa bahay kasi sobrang sakit ng katawan mo sa pagod! Get that gym membership as early as now, you’ll need it. ‘Wag i-asa sa HMO!

Oh ayan. Best of luck sa job hunting, pero bago mo gawin ‘yung tips namin sa itaas, nagawa mo na ba yung term paper mo sa Psych? basa-basa ka diyan, di ka pa pala graduating!

Santa’s wish list

Santa’s wish list

December 20, 2018 | Christmas

Every Christmas, we look forward to the festive Noche Buena salo-salo, the cold weather we use as an excuse to flaunt our favorite hoodies, and most importantly, Santa’s gifts. Pero naisip mo na ba, pano naman si Santa? Ano kayang gusto niyang matanggap for Christmas?

An organizer
Santa manages countless elves that work double time to meet their Christmas eve deadline, he also plans how to distribute all those gifts around the globe so we reckon a thick 3-year organizer can help him have an easier time.

A Jose Mari Chan album
Preparing for Christmas for most of the year in his gifts factory at North Pole can be sad because he doesn’t have access to the greatest Christmas album of all time, Jose Mari Chan’s Double Diamond album, “Christmas in our Hearts”! What do you think will Santa’s #NewJam be?

More children going to the “Nice” list
It may mean more work for him (kasi mas marami siyang reregaluhan), but of course he wants kids to treat everybody nicer.

New phone
Santa travels a lot, he’ll need a trusty smart phone with a high-end camera to capture all those high-altitude beauties!

Sled with GPS
‘Yung pag punta nga lang sa job interview mo, mahirap na without Google Maps, pano pa ‘yung tracking ng addresses niyo to deliver the gifts? A GPS-guided sled can help him a lot.

A Fresh Grad’s To-do List

A Fresh Grad’s To-do List

April 6, 2018 | Kuya Tips

Fresh Grad's Tips
Make yourself a decent email address.

Tama na yung mga pabebe, cryptic, or spelled backwards email adds like babyblue_13@itsme.com, leandrowsy@hotmail.com, or ojojnitsuga@yahoo.com. It’s already time to make it #professional.

Tip: Start with your real name or surname and use yahoo mail or gmail.

Fresh Grad's Tips
Clean your social media accounts.

O ‘wag magalit. Ang point lang nito is to “filter” your accounts, which means minimizing those wasted-look photos you have when you went on a drinking spree. Or yung mga slightly aggressive rants caused by your emotional outbursts. Your future employers might look into your social media accounts kasi. And what you want them to see is your fascinating personality and the interesting aspects of your life.

Tip: While you’re at it, it’s also a good time to purge your “friends” list. Unfriend or unfollow mo na rin yung mga taong nega or nagbibigay ng bad vibes, para all good and positive ka when you welcome the real world and when you start your future.

Fresh Grad's Tips
Get the paper works and significant documents done.

Yes, tedious siyang gawin, but it’s for your own good. Para di ka na rin ma-hassle in the future. Kaya go on and create that bulletproof resume, ilakad na ang SSS, ayusin na ang driver’s license and other types of government IDs. Don’t worry, chill-chill ka na lang once matapos mo lahat.

Tip: Start with the government stuff kasi those are the things that require an x amount of your time.

Fresh Grad's Tips
Get recommendation letters from your professors.

Politely ask and make pasuyo your favorite prof for an “aromatic” yet true to life blanket letter of recommendation. Para naman mabango ka both in person and on paper when you apply for a job.

Tip: Let’s just hope malakas ka sa prof mo. Kung feeling mo hindi, baka pwede mo naman silang i-treat ng coffee or something. *wink*

Fresh Grad's Tips
Invest on work clothes.

This one actually depends on the kind of work that you’ll end up with or you’d want to enter. If you’re lucky, you can go in a simple shirt-jeans-sneakers look to work. But there is a high chance that you’ll end up donning the “corporate” look, so make sure you get the best of both worlds.

Tip: Ask mama or papa for help muna.

Fresh Grad's Tips
Enjoy your time off.

Gusto mo na bang tumalon from classroom straight to the boardroom? We hope not. Kasi if you dive right in without any downtime in between, you might catch an early burnout. And we don’t want that diba? Kaya use your time to go on road trips, learn a new skill, or just savor that sweet time.

Tip: Use your time wisely though and make it productive. Para may baon ka when you finally enter the real world.
